Apple hosts an event called Worldwide Developers Conference, or WWDC as it is more commonly known, in San Jose, CA. The first year my husband, Robert, attended the conference was in 2018. He made many connections, learned a LOT, and was able to further his abilities in his field. It was directly as a result of his attendence at WWDC that pushed him to create a more active developer community at his current place of work. Those efforts put him on Facebook’s radar, eventually leading to a job offer and subsequent move to the Bay Area. The next year, he was able to attend again, this time as a Facebook developer. What a difference a year can make!
Due to the current pandemic (thanks for that, covid-19…grrr), this year’s event was all virtual. To say Robert was bummed is an understatement. He was looking forward to attending workshops, having consultations with specialists, and of course, collecting the swag. I can’t say he likes swag…that would be an understatement. He is a SWAG WHORE! He will collect freebies whenever and wherever he can. He LOVES the various stickers and pins offered WWDC each year, collecting them to display on his desk or stick on laptops, tablets, etc.. A virtual event this year meant no swag. We decided to remedy that.
We have both enjoyed out time sitting down and creating various things together, so these stickers were a combines effort. Robert was able to put his Adobe Illustrator skills to use to create an SVG file with layers for the two stickers, based on designs he found on WWD discussion boards. With those designs available, I was able to cut and layer them to create these shiny beauties. The layering took some practice, because I’m not even close to expert level yet, but after some slightly off attempts, these ended up looking spot on for what we envisioned. Robert originally wanted flat colors for the layers, but decided to let me create a shiny version of each, so long as he still got to pick out the vinyl colors. Shiny stickers won the contest for best looking! They now both have a place of pride on his personal laptop and he has already shown them off to others on an internal employee group at FB.
