A Valentine for You!
Happy Valentine’s Day to those who celebrate! This cute little kitty has a valentine heart for you. I don’t know about any of you guys, but I can never have too many bags around for use. I keep them everywhere…in the car, with my purse (or use one as a purse), in the coat closet, craft area, etc. They’re everywhere and I always want to add more!
Since it’s Valentine’s Day, I thought a cute heart design was in order. I felt that these two colors work well together. I went with the gold color for the cat because I think it not only goes well with Valentine’s Day, but also Lunar New Year that has just passed. There’s something so happy feeling about seeing decorations everywhere around town for Lunar New Year and I feel a touch sad when it is all over.
Minor Design Change
In the original svg file, the cat designs have a loop at the top for making charms and such for jewelry. Since I wanted to use this one for a bag design, I had to slice off the little loop at the top. DesignBundles has a nice tutorial for slicing files in Cricut Design Space. Their tutorial is specific to creating split designs, but it was the same method I used for removing the loop. Instead of the rectangle, I used the circle shape and then sliced. Once the slice was made, I simply deleted the part I didn’t want to keep. Maybe at some point, I will create a tutorial of my own with pictures and video.
Looks like I have a reason to try out the new voice over microphone. Eeek!
Layering Vinyl
I already knew I like TeckWrap Craft’s PU htv. I love that is is soft and flexible and it moves really well with the fabric. So of course, curiosity set in…will it still be as flexible and soft if layered? Happily, I can say after this project that it is! Now I have to wonder if it will layer this well with other types of htv. Guess I’ll have to make another htv project to explore that though.
Admittedly I was nervous about layering with these not so much because of the material itself, but because of the carrier sheet. I’m finding that the carrier sheet for these PUs are super adhesive and grip extremely well. The down side to that is it continues that insanely strong grip when trying to remove it after application. I worried that the second layer would cause some damage from pulling too much.
While there was no damage from pulling the carrier sheets, there was a small issue I noticed from it. After applying the second layer and removing the carrier sheet, I noticed that the edge of the carrier sheet left a small indent across the cat. I was able to flatten it out with the heat press, but I will be brainstorming ideas of how to avoid that in the future.
