NEVER Goes As Planned
Yeah, this project is EXACTLY why I need to put projects together soon after cutting them. This was 100% my error. These galaxy butterflies were originally cut a few months ago. Unfortunately for them, I stupidly left them in a project box tucked away and forgot about them. Luckily for the galaxy butterflies, I rediscovered them last week and finally finished them!
…except I messed up how I intended to do the first one. SMH The vinyl I wanted to be used for the fill in of the galaxy butterflies’ wings is actually a glittery rough texture which cannot be layered on top of easily. The outlines however were to be the holographic glass black, which is super easy to layer. So the plan SHOULD HAVE been reverse weed the glittery vinyl and layer it onto the black silhouette. When done correctly (as I did on the second decal), it looks great!
Cut setting
I mentioned in the mandala bee post that I have changed how I’ve been cutting vinyls. Below is a refresher for those who may have missed it.
Since upgrading to the Cricut Maker 3, I have come up with a new cut setting for most of my adhesive vinyls. It takes a bit more time to cut a design, but is worth it given that the one setting has worked on every TeckWrap Craft vinyl I’ve used so far. That’s a win! If you aren’t sure of how to create your own custom cut setting in Design Space, check out my walk through HERE.
For this new cut setting, the pressure has been set to 130. I kept the fine point blade selection, but changed it to a 2x cut. I chose a 2x pass because there have been so many times where a specific setting has cut the vinyl almost perfect, but had some areas that didn’t cut completely. The two passes helps to ensure that it all cuts cleanly.
Finished Decal
So even though I didn’t do both of these decals how I intended, they both still look quite nice.
