My Favorite Place in the World…
…is next to my husband, Robert. I made this sign specifically with him in mind because he is my favorite place. No matter where I am, if he’s there beside me, I feel thousands of times more capable of anything! Where is your favorite place (or your favorite person) in the world?
I Learned From Last Time
On my last post, I talked about using acrylic paint to help the adhesive vinyl apply better to the canvas. In that attempt, I still had some difficulty lifting the transfer tape away from the design without some significant coaxing. This time, I tried the acrylic paint again and applied it a bit thicker. This time was a better success as it took less than five minutes to remove the transfer tape versus the almost twenty from the last one.
At my husband’s behest, I think that next time I will try using gesso to prep the canvas to see if it provides a better surface for the adhesive. I also want to try using a heat gun to set the vinyl a bit better. I’ve seen some people get some amazing application with TeckWrap Craft vinyl when using heat after application.
A Tip for Applying Vinyl to Canvas
When applying anything to the canvas surface, it helps to have support underneath. I found a couple books that fit well in the underside and along the edges. This helps to keep the canvas flat and able to take applied pressure. Without the support underneath, you’re likely to create dimples in the canvas in areas where pressure was applied without support and the canvas stretched. Sometimes the dimples will eventually repair themselves, but it’s not guaranteed. The support underneath just helps to avoid the unnecessary damage.
