Oh Holy Crap!

This cutesy little flower eye cheetah is a beautiful design by Tommy & Till Design that they’ve posted for purchase on Design Bundles. The design is originally intended to be one layer. We all know that I don’t roll like that. What is simple, I must complicate. I was also excited for the opportunity to finally use this opal cheetah print vinyl for something other than little stickers.

Why has it been so freaking long since I last posted? Simply put…brain be mean and mental health is a struggle sometimes. But! I am here now and so I post. LOL I am going to focus on the present and be present-minded. So onwards to reviewing what I did in the past (whoops…).

Cut Settings

As always, remember that the specified settings are specific to the Cricut Maker. For a reference guide to cut pressures for each Cricut setting, check out this handy chart:

  • TWC 40 Color Pack: premium outdoor vinyl with more pressure
  • TWC Opal Holographic Vinyl: holographic sparkle vinyl with default pressure

Luckily the cutting of each layer went very smoothly without issues. I am overall very happy with how these colors came together to make a fun, bright flower eye cheetah. The goal was to make it ‘pop’ and I really believe it does with the multiple layers.

Turning One Layer into Many

In lieu of making a tutorial of my own at the moment, I will instead refer you to Shawn Mosch’s tutorial. They did a great job of describing the process plus screen shots so you know what to look for as you work. While the step by step tutorial is a bit more involved that what I did with the flower eye cheetah, the steps are the same.

What Issue?

You or may not have noticed in the video, but I tried something new and it failed pretty spectacularly. I was lucky enough to be able to rectify it with some effort and patience, but it was not exactly easy. Knowing how to layer with both a barn door method and the parchment paper method, I thought about combining the two to see if it would make a difference. It did, but not even close to how it was intended.

I should have paid closer attention to the layer being applied as the squeegee went across it. The backing paper did not let go of all of the pieces. One part it half way let go and kept the other half for itself. You can see above where the backing paper still has a bit of the design on it. The edge around the ear and left side of the face is partly there and mostly not. There was a bit of time with tweezers and steady hands to fix what was messed up.

The Finished Project

It’s been a long time coming and it is finally here to share with you all! I know I say this just about every project, but I really am happy with the finished product. This flower eye cheetah is bright, color shifty, and sparkly in all the best ways. I love how different it can look with different angles and lighting.
