How Beautifully Ornate

I’m going to start with how absolutely stunning this ornate paw print design is! Overall, the ornate paw print is pretty simple…it’s just a paw print. But then the ornate mandala/zentangle elements are included that make this design so much more.

I’m going to be a bit southern here when I say…Y’ALL!!! I thought I would be making a pretty simple and straightforward decal with this project. Ya know, something cutesy to decorate another project box or desk top space. Once I started the weeding though, I knew I was in for a while of head down working. It took AN HOUR AND A HALF!!! Wah!

Cut Setting

As always, remember that the specified settings are specific to the Cricut Maker. For a reference guide to cut pressures for each Cricut setting, check out this handy chart:

  • Rose gold/pink glossy holographic vinyl: premium vinyl setting with default pressure

Just like my last project, I will have to reassess the cut setting to determine which one will work better in the future. The complexity of this design made it slightly difficult, but the material not being fully cut through in some areas made it almost nightmare-ish.

Problem Found and Conquered

I am stubborn sometimes. So, so, stupidly stubborn. This design could have been a quick easy to do project had I had the Cricut on a better cut setting. Unfortunately for me, the vinyl didn’t quite cut through all the way in some places, making weeding a bear of a chore.

Funny enough, my niece has tried to make this same design on her own. She did give up part way through due to the difficulty level of the weeding. I didn’t fully understand her frustration until trying it for myself. This design is not for those who like easy weeding. The little spirals are EVERYWHERE throughout the ornate paw print design. E.V.E.R.Y.W.H.E.R.E. Why are there so many spirals in this design?! It’s like it knew I wanted simple and wanted to see me suffer.

I charged through (even though I probably shouldn’t have) and did end up finishing the design.

Side note – Did you catch that work flow at work again in the beginning of the process video? 😀
