Time to do Some HTV!
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done any projects with heat transfer vinyl (htv), so here I am jumping back in! I recently received some htv from TeckWrap Craft. I just had to try them out. This polyurethane (PU) htv is a soft touch matte finish that I just want to pet constantly. Of course, it can’t be something like a basic shirt or hand towel (though you will see both of those soon too). Nope! The first one out the gate is a little wooden sign. Welcome to the chaos!
Ever since first realizing htv can be applied to wood, I have loved experimenting. I’ve done a few signs for various projects using htv on wood shapes. Eventually, it’d be nice to attempt some more complex layering on wood to see how it handles.
Design Layout
While it is sped up considerably in the video, my original plan for the layout did not go as intended (shocker…I know). The design was intended to be straight with the two twigs of leaves underneath the bottom corners to create a frame. However, I did not correctly measure before I cut, so my leaf twigs were a tad too large to fit around the bottom corners correctly. It can be seen in the video that I try a few variations before settling on the off kilter look. I figure the crooked look fits well with the phrase.
Circuit Setting
I mentioned on the reflective bee mandala post and the glitter butterflies post that I made a new custom setting for TeckWrap Craft vinyls. I am happy to report that the setting continues to work flawlessly, even with these htvs! The second pass adds a bit of time to the cutting, but is totally worth it in the end.
TeckWrap Craft!
I recently have been invited to join the affiliate program for TeckWrap Craft! For any purchase you make on their site, you can use the code MYIR for an additional 5% off your total purchase. It is thanks to their generosity that I have the opportunity to try their weeding pen, tool pouch, and some of these great htvs.
While it will take a bit of adjustment for me, the weeding pen is quite handy. I have used it for a few weeding projects now and for journaling. I am loving this pen for removing stickers from their backing paper! It saves my nails from that much extra polish chipping. If you don’t know, I have pretty flexible nails, so I keep them painted as much as I can to protect them from chipping/breaking.
The Finished Project
Isn’t odd how a flash can change how this board looks? I promise that the two lighter photographs are more representative of how the sign looks in person. When I turned the flash on, it looked darker than it actually is. I thought the brassy version was pretty neat looking, so I wanted to include it anyways.
