December 12, 2020: Opal Castle

Products Used

Another Go

After the last project went a bit wonky with application, I decided to try it again. It did better, but some improvements are still needed. I am happy overall with how pretty this little opal castle looks overall. AS seen previously, this itv is a new product from TeckWrap Craft and I was super excited for it. It looks exactly like their white opal adhesive vinyl.

Unfortunately for me, I still have not found the sweet spot for the amount of heat and time needed for a good clean application. The label on the product did not specify heat, pressure, and time needed for an opal itv, so I used my best judgement based on the other finishes they had listed. Last time, I had the heat press set to 315 degrees Fahrenheit and pressed it for 15 seconds. The heat or time was too much and caused some pretty significant wrinkling of the design.

This time, I decreased the heat to 310 degrees Fahrenheit and pressed it for 10 seconds. As you can see in the images above, there is much less wrinkling, but it can still be seen in some areas. This time, the wrinkling seems to be mostly concentrated on the edges of the design rather than across most of the design.

Do I Try Again?

I am sure that I most likely will try another design to fine tune the settings to get a clean, nice looking finished project. However, the excitement for me has waned a bit since I now have two attempts with finished products that I do not particularly like. I had higher hopes for this opal castle, but I was sadly disappointed. That being said, continuing to make improvements means I gain even more knowledge and become a better crafter.

It’s all about that perseverance!
