Keep on Crafting
This layered vinyl pumpkin is a new favorite! Like previous projects, this one was a great opportunity to use some vinyls that have been sitting untouched. I’ve been so afraid of using different vinyls and I’m seeing lately that it’s a waste. Why have all of these pretty pretty crafting supplies to just look at them? I’m putting them to good use!
After the success of the maple leaf, I knew I just had to layer vinyl again in another mandala/zentangle design. The layered vinyl pumpkin screams fall vibes and it had to be made. I’m so glad that I did too because this design is absolutely stunning!
The Trials and Tribulations…of course
Let’s face it; I will never have a project that is completely smooth. Of course this one had trouble…but unlike most times, the troubles with this one didn’t piss me off as much as usual. So that’s progress. I can see that I am getting back into the swing of weeding and putting together projects. I consider that a great win! Honestly I was pretty worried after the accident that I wouldn’t get back to being myself for a long time.
What isn’t readily seen in the process videos is that the bottom two layers are not what was originally cut. Originally, I had used a Teckwrap vinyl in a cream and a red holographic thread vinyl for the second to bottom layer. The red holo thread vinyl was recut because it didn’t cut through completely the first time. I didn’t notice until after I had removed the mat, so a new piece had to go through.
When beginning to layer, the very bottom layer had somehow creased as I was placing the red holo thread vinyl on top, creating a series of horrible creases and wrinkles over almost half of the design. Of course by that point, it was too late to try to fix it. Into the trash they went and I recut the two layers into what is seen in the process video and in pictures.
Layering and Admiring the Work
Layering the five layers in total was not as painful as I thought it would be. I suppose the maple leaf and other layering projects have paid off as practice. Since it is my most tried and true technique for layering, I once again used parchment paper and hinge method to layer the design.
This project, once completed, was so stunning in my opinion that I just keep staring at it. I finished it yesterday and kept it out on my desk because I just keep looking at it. This one will definitely be part of a frame or shadow box decoration for the fall season. Guess I better start getting my other fall decor out of storage and start decorating!
