HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

To those in the United States who celebrate the holiday, Happy Thanksgiving! To those who do not celebrate or are outside of the United States, happy Thursday! 🙂

I made this little Happy Thanksgiving sign as a decoration for outside my apartment door. Living in an apartment means we don’t have a lawn to decorate like we did when we lived in Florida. Now we have our little space at the front door and a few balconies that we can decorate with lights. That’s pretty much it. So in efforts to bring a smile to neighbors, I made this little sign as greetings to all who pass.

Cheap Project

This design, when cut, was 4 inches wide and 23 inches long. I used the 4.5 inch wood planks by Crafter’s Square that I picked up at the Dollar Tree. One pack had six squares, so it was the perfect amount for this sign. Since I was running low on time, I used artist tape on the back to attach the squares together into a long strip.

If I had more time (or honestly not had been as lazy), three things would have been done to make this sign better:

  1. Use wood glue to adhere the wood planks together instead of taping the back. While these planks are lightweight and tape holds them together sufficiently, wood glue would have made them more solid and sturdy.
  2. Stain the strip before applying the adhesive vinyl. With time and planning, I could have easily grabbed a small can of stain to use and let cure before applying the vinyl.
  3. After applying the vinyl, apply a layer of clear sealant or epoxy to seal the sign.

Well, next time I do a similar project, I will remember to make time to step up my game and make a more long-lasting sign. But it’s like I say pretty frequently, this is how we learn!
