JUMANI!!!

Those ahead of us in the Pacific time zone…DID IT WORK?!?! Is 2021 any better? Anyways, HAPPY NEW YEAR!! For the last layered design of the year, I bring to you this beautiful split mandala and floral numbers to celebrate the happy new year.

These designs were originally found on Creative Fabrica, for which I recently began a monthly membership.

I really do feel like it’s worth the monthly fee in order to have access to all of their available fonts, SVGs, projects, and everything else. I’ve already found the next several projects I want to work on, so I definitely recommend checking it out if you haven’t already.

The Race is On…

This project, not including cut time, took a total of 2 hours 11 minutes. Given the size of the mandala and that each section of the design is 4 layers each, I’d like to think I did pretty good on the time. This was the first chance I had to use a few of my new toys that I’ll be featuring in future posts throughout January, so keep a close eye out for those. There’s a new camera mount, light table, and lighting for filming. It’s all pretty fancy and makes me feel like more of a professional.

Yes There Was a Problem

Honestly, it’d be easier to count how many projects do not have some kind of issue. This one will, of course, fall into “projects with some kind of issue” category. It was not until this project that I learned the lesson of when to not reuse transfer tape. As many have noticed by now, I reuse transfer tape as long as possible. If I can avoid throwing something out or spending money on more supplies (except for vinyl…I will ALWAYS buy more vinyl), I will keep using it. Unfortunately with the size of this project, the transfer tape had to be replaced mid-project.

After removing the transfer tape from the first layering of the mandala design, I realized it had stretched a bit and warped. Not thinking too much about it, I kept using it as I usually do. Then I found out why I shouldn’t reuse warped tape. When trying to line up the next layer, it had taken the shape of the warped mess instead of laying flat. For good layering, you really want the design to be as flat as possible. When it’s not, it will not line up.

Lesson learned this time – If the transfer tape is warped in any way, throw it out.
