Take Two
I have been staring at this llama for weeks. I originally made this decal with a different top layer back in November. After making it, I was slightly disappointed with how it looked. While I usually love to mix holo vinyls, the silver and rainbow combo just wasn’t cutting it that time. So, it is time for sparkle llama take two.
Sparkle Llama is Very Sparkly
For this attempt, I used the newer glitter adhesive vinyl from TeckWrap. I previously used their glitter vinyl for a multilayer cat design and have been looking to order at least one color to use for future products. I finally broke down just after Christmas and placed an order that included some htvs (those will be seen shortly because I HAVE to share them) and the black glitter adhesive. Once it was in hand, I thought it was time to give sparkle llama another shot.
I am very happy with how this iteration looks. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it seems to flow better with the darker lines. To me, it looks more like a llama than the first iteration. My biggest complaint with take one was that the silver stood out so much from the background that the llama face was disconnected. That seems to have been rectified with the black glitter adhesive.
Need for Backlighting
Given that the line work is black AND glitter, the cut lines were virtually invisible at first. You’ll see on the progress video where I hold the vinyl piece up and bend it slightly to reveal the cut lines. I quickly found out that weeding it was quite difficult without back lighting.
I cannot say enough how much I like that this light pad is lightweight, thin, and oh so portable. It has made filming layering videos easier and appear better on camera (the previous light table created white balance issues on camera that resulted in strange scrolling stripes). This light pad has been so very useful for previous projects when layering. Now it again proves it’s worth with this project. See for yourself below. The cut lines suddenly appear as if from nowhere just by powering up the light pad.
