(Singing like Sia) I’ve got a layered heeeeaaaaaaarrrrrrrttttttt
I keep thinking of the song Elastic Heart by Sia, but changing it to layered heart instead. LOL This layered heart is another project done for Valentine’s Day. I’m quite proud of myself for getting not just one, but two projects ready for a holiday before a few days before said holiday. This is a good record for me.
This layered heart is my first project using the cold temp pink to purple color changing vinyl from TeckWrap Craft. I used the white/clear to blue color changing vinyl for a snowflake decal at the beginning of the month and was quite enamored with the effect. I find myself really enjoying the look of the color change vinyls layered into a design. This will probably be a technique that is revisited at least a few more times in the future.
Check Your Setting…And Your Blade
This project was originally cut a week ago. It was cut a second time two days afterwards. The it was cut a third time yesterday. I am kicking myself for having wasted this precious color changing vinyl on three cuts.
The first failed cut was because I did not do a test cut to determine what setting would be best (hint – it’s the holographic sparkle vinyl setting). The second failed cut was because my blade, which has been cutting since September, wasn’t cleaned/sharpened nor replaced. Needless to say, that blade is now replaced and is working very well once again.
This pack of Arsill replacement blades have been quite the handy little tools to have on hand whenever a new blade is needed. From my experience, these Arsill blades work just as well as the Cricut branded ones and last just as long. Be forewarned – if your machine is still within the manufacturer warranty period, using these replacement blades will risk voiding the warranty. I have had my Maker for long enough that the machine is no longer within the warranty period, so I am less hesitant to try parts by different companies. Remember to always do some research before trying a different branded product. Check reviews, find blogs talking about it, videos on YouTube, etc.
