Well THAT Lion Was a Challenge
I was maybe a bit too ambitious with this project. I wanted to make an oversized lion as soon as I spotted this design. While I have become better at layering with much practice, none of it prepared me for the size of this lion. The finished project is 11.5 inches wide by 15 inches long. The only project of a similar size of mine to be layered was a peacock back in June of last year, not long before I began this blog page.
Fun bit of trivia: in the peacock project above, you can see the edges of a project I did to celebrate 500 followers on Instagram. It’s crazy to think that was eight months ago. As of today, I’m at 4,233 followers! So crazy to see how fast things have grown in less than a year.
Big Thing on the Horizon
Speaking of growing, I have recently been accepted into the Amazon Influencer program! I am so very excited to have the opportunity to be able to provide one, well organized page to link each product used for individual projects. While it may not look like much now, it’ll be filled up soon with all sorts of goodies to check out. I’ve started an idea list for tools that I use for weeding as well as some of the adhesive vinyls I reach for regularly.
There is a feature that allows me to upload project images and directly link each product used in the image, creating a shoppable photo. I have already included the shoppable photo for this lion project on the page. Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think.
What Big Light Pads You Have
Oh have I been waiting to bust out this beauty! This light pad from CO-Z is the mother of all light pads. The thickness is the same as the pink light pad featured at the beginning of the year. This light table, however, is SO MUCH BIGGER! It is A2, meaning the lighted space is 23 inches by 16.5 inches.
Unlike the smaller light pad, this CO-Z light pad is powered by an AC powered adapter instead of usb. So that means that it has to be used near a power source. I did have to make a few minor adjustments to my filming area setup to make space for the power adapter. But those changes were well worth it to be able to use the light pad when weeding and layering the lion.
Editing Isn’t Always a Breeze
I’ve noticed more so on this project than many others that I have an issue with staying out of the frame. Gah! As you can tell from the screen cap below, I do have to put my head in the frame at times. Usually, I’m pretty good about doing it only a couple of times and can easily edit it out. For this project though, I moved into the frame more than I ever have before.
Not only was my head directly blocking the shot at times, but I apparently stayed on frame at the edge for a significant portion of filming. Unfortunately for me, I was unable to clip myself out through the usual means of zooming or shifting the frame. If you check out the process video on my YouTube channel, you can easily see where the frame will shift or move in tighter. Those edits were all attempts to keep my out of the frame. You will also see that regardless of those attempts, I fail throughout the entire video.
