Spooky Season is Here!

Who else feels the need to make Halloween decorations lately? With my decorations currently in storage and no easy way to access them unassisted, I set to making new stuff, including this witchy cauldron. This awesome layered mandala design is part of the Cricut Design Space multilayered holiday mandalas image set. I am really enjoying this witchy cauldron and would be totally game for making several more in various sizes and all different vinyl combos.

Now that this witchy cauldron is complete, I need to brainstorm what to make next and where to put it all. For now, I think this witchy cauldron will become front door decor for my neighbors’ viewing enjoyment.

Learning More Each Day

Each time I work to create content, I find myself learning something new each time. With this project, I made my first attempt at adding a short timed text card. It was nice to note why I did something in the video. It may not seem like much and to many it isn’t. But I feel like it’s a great step towards creating more high quality, worthwhile content for others. The more I can help other crafters, the happier I am!

Closer Look at Layering

So I have mentioned using parchment paper for layering multiple times ever since I first tried it. It occurs to me that I never took the time to illustrate it more clearly. For those who would like to use parchment paper for their layered vinyl projects, I’ve provided some illustrated steps below.

Hopefully, these steps provided will help you to learn how using parchment paper can equal some impressively layered projects. It took some time and practice to get a better idea of how to use this properly. The time and effort was all well worth it in the end. I have been so confident with layering that lately it seems to be all I want to do!

Steps to Parchment Paper Layering

1 – Start with your transfer tape on your work surface, sticky side up.
2 – Lay your top most layer onto the transfer tape facing down.
3 – Flip over the transfer tape and use a squeegee to burnish the vinyl.
4 – Flip the transfer tape back over and roll away the backing paper from the vinyl.
5 – Place parchment paper over the entire design, but leave some of the edge of transfer tape exposed (not the design).
6 – Tape the next layer down to the surface of your work area so it will not move.
7 – Place your transfer tape with parchment paper directly on top of the next layer and line them up. Once they are lined up, press down the exposed side of the transfer tape to the work surface to keep it from moving.
8 – Lift up the transfer tape and remove the parchment paper from between the two layers.
9 – Holding your transfer tape up, use a squeegee or rigid straight edge to burnish the top layer to the layer taped down. This will help reduce the amount of air bubbles between layers. Repeat steps 4 through 9 until all layers have been layered. This witchy cauldron design had four layers, so this process was repeated three more times.
10 – When the project is completed and you remove your transfer tape, you can stick it onto the parchment paper and store it for additional uses in the future. This particular piece of transfer tape has been used for five other projects and still has enough tack to continue being used.
