Basic Yet Not So Much So

While this avant-garde style design is easy, it’s very appealing…at least it is to me. When spotting the design on Cricut’s Design Space, it screamed to be done in holographic vinyl. This rose/eye design is intended to be a t-shirt design, but I see it more as a great creative notebook cover. I almost want to put it on a page of a junk journal.

No Problems!!

This is a design to be careful of when weeding. Around the top of the eye along the lash line, there are a bunch of tiny little spots to remove. I had to break down and switch from my fave weeding hook to the tweezers just to be able to grab the little pieces. I almost pulled out the straight pin tool.

The Three Piece Weeding Tool Set

For almost every single project, you can see my trusty three piece weeding tool set being used. While I primarily use the hook tool, the set includes tweezers and a straight pin tool as well for various preferences and uses.

I find the hook to be most successful for me when weeding. I like being able to punch it through the vinyl and use the hook to grab hold of the vinyl from behind then lift it away. This process helps me cleanly remove most pieces and keep a decent pace time-wise.

The tweezers I find most helpful for picking up tiny little pieces like today’s design had along the top lash line of the eye. My niece and mother, on the other hand, primarily use the tweezers for weeding. They like to open the tweezers some, set it onto each piece to remove, and pinch it up then lift it away. I have weeded like that before and still do on occasion to switch things up, but for me it is a bit more time consuming. They can both use the tweezers faster than me.

The straight pin is one I love to use for sections of small little pieces clustered together. As long as the vinyl has been cleanly cut, I can stick one piece with the straight tool, then lift away and repeat multiple times before clearing away vinyl from the tool. If I remember to do so, I’ll demonstrate each use in a future project.

Beware – All three tools in this set are sharp. I have stuck myself with them more times than I care to admit, drawing blood each time.
